The new RANE SEVENTY-TWO AND TWELVE HAVE ARRIVED ON THE SCENE

When the Rane TWELVE and SEVENTY TWO were released in 2019 they took the DJ industry by storm with their feature-packed design and intuitive workflow. They offered DJs all of the benefits of performing with vinyl while avoiding the major drawbacks like needles skipping and bass-induced tonearm jumping. Now, Rane has released the second generation of these popular products and they have some great upgrades for today’s DJs.

Rane TWELVE MKII

The Rane TWELVE MKII has quickly become a standard for motorized DJ controllers, allowing many DJs to make the jump from standard DJ controller to a real vinyl platter. Like the previous generation, it gives DJs the ability to get hands-on with their music while being both accurate and responsive. It’s also built inside the same durable steel housing. In addition to removing the hassle of replacing needles, the Rane TWELVE’s design also eliminates the possibility of audio feedback or bass rumble.

Updates to the MKII version start with the software. While the first generation was compatible with Serato out of the box, the MKII version now adds TRAKTOR & Virtual DJ compatibility, opening up the use of this controller to an even wider array of DJs. The new model also adds USB control for track browse, track selection & instant doubles. The bottom of the TWELVE now has RCA outs for DVS Audio control, allowing DJs to send a control tone to their software of choice. On the top panel, you’ll find a plunger style Start/Stop button (familiar to those who’ve used turntables in the past), and a new OLED Screen for displaying BPM and USB status.

Rane SEVENTY-TWO MKII

The Rane SEVENTY-TWO is the perfect complement to the TWELVE. It’s built with the same rock-solid steel and aluminum design and integrates seamlessly with a pair of TWELVEs via the two USB inputs on the rear. If you want to use the 2-channel mixer with different turntables or CDJs, that’s fine too – it has dual USB laptop inputs ready to go. Having two USB inputs means that transitions between DJs are seamless and easy. Included with the SEVENTY-TWO is a Serato DJ Pro DVS license, Serato Pitch n Time, and Serato DVS Vinyl.

One of the highlights of the Rane SEVENTY-TWO MKII is its ability to harness the full creative power of Serato DJ Pro software. While other controllers let you control select parts of the software via their buttons and knobs, the SEVENTY-TWO lets you access pretty much all of it. When it comes to features, one of the highlights is the full-color touchscreen for visualizing waveforms, modifying and stacking effects, selecting songs, and more. As far as effects, DJs can not only select from all of Serato’s built-in effects but can also access a pair of internal Flex FX engines, one for each channel. Three MAG FOUR Faders allow customization of tension, contour, reverse, and cut-in settings. The customization extends further to the parameter control for instant doubles, silent cue, and sync features. Finally, the 16 multi-function trigger pads will let you expressively trigger your hot cues, effects, samples, and more.

The Rane TWELVE and SEVENTY-TWO MKII offer new features and functions with the same solid build quality and reliability seen with the previous generation. If you’re looking to get more hands-on with your DJing, the Rane TWELVE and SEVENTY-TWO MKII are exactly what you need.
