Q&A Sessions: CHUWE

When he's not helping you find DJ controllers, speakers, lighting, or recording gear at the I DJ NOW Showroom in Queens, CHUWE is traveling the world and bringing his music to the people! A talented DJ and producer, CHUWE's music captivates audiences on the dance floor, on platforms such as iHeartRadio, BBC One, and Sirius XM, and festivals around the world including Ultra Music Festival, Tomorrowland, Coachella, and EDC. CHUWE's high energetic performances have taken him across North America, South America, Europe and beyond, but he always finds his way home here at I DJ NOW. We had a chance to speak to him and had a quick chat about his start in music, influences, advice he has for other DJs and producers, and more!

I DJ NOW: How long ago did you get started in music and how did your early life shape your career path?

CHUWE: Started DJing & producing music in 2004, playing almost every high school party/teen bash all over Long Island & producing Hip Hop & Reggaeton. Early life helped my career by growing up listening to the roots of music coming from my parents culture & my brothers playing music from the 90’s.

IDJ: You have a worldwide audience; you've traveled and toured in many places throughout the world. Tell us about one of your most memorable performance experiences.

CHUWE: First time playing in Amsterdam, Holland was memorable walking into the event and having lots of fans that I didn’t know I had greet me with love and excitement to watch me play my show.

IDJ: What were some of your biggest musical influences (DJ or other) that helped you shape your performance style?

CHUWE: My musical influences were: Pete Rock, Skrillex, DJ Snake, Chris Lake, Boombox Cartel, Bad Bunny, Major Lazer, Yellow Claw.

IDJ: Name your all-time favorite pieces of gear (whether you own it or not) - controller/speakers/lights/accessory

CHUWE: Has to be Pioneer DJ gear: the CDJ3000, DJM900NX2, XDJRX3 and DDJ1000SRT.

IDJ: What is a piece of advice you can give to people publishing their own music?

CHUWE: Keep doing it. Anything can happen in seconds and go viral and your music or song can be a hit.

IDJ: Name one piece of equipment that you must have with you on every gig no matter what the type of event.

CHUWE: My Laptop and USBs.

IDJ: What's one piece of advice for the others following a similar path?

CHUWE: Go 100% if you want it you can get it put your heart to it don’t give up.

IDJ: What's up next? New music or another tour?

CHUWE: Definitely new music coming and big tour dates on the way.

IDJ: Do you have any rituals/things you do before an event?

CHUWE: I get with my team and we say “We are here for a reason. Lets Kill it and show the world who we are.”

IDJ: How do you approach the process of selecting and curating music for your DJ sets? What factors do you consider when creating a setlist?

CHUWE: Has to be Fireeeee!! Music that makes the people want to dance.

IDJ: What’s something you like to do in your down time?

CHUWE: Explore the world and catch up on movies.
